Like any new skill, listening to God takes intentional
practice
In the study of learning, there are laws, much like scientific law
such as gravity, that effect us all. A law can be defined as a natural
power, something that always acts the same way, with no exceptions
apart from a higher law (gravity vs. buoyancy)
Here are a couple of laws in learning to know .
Law of active learning: Active responding
produces more effective learning than passive listening or reading.
Law of practice and feedback: Learners
cannot master skills without repeated practice and relevant feedback.
Law of individual differences: Different
people learn in different ways.
Law of response level. Learners master
skills and knowledge at the level at which they are required to
respond during the learning process.
A. There must be a purposed
response – a commitment to respond
V Why is there hardness to personal
and corporate prayer? Why is there a double mindedness towards personal
and corporate prayer
V Not from lack of truth, but from
lack of response
V A hard heart that no longer hears
or wants to hear
B. There must be a positive
response –
V Giving positive response to what
we hear from God
V This is the key to developing a
sensitivity towards God
C. There must be a negative
response
V We must deliberately ignore the
impressions of the world, the worries of the mind, and train ourselves
to become less aware of spiritually unhealthy distractions
D. There must be an increased
response
V The more you respond to the things
of God – especially to the guiding voice of the Holy Spirit
– the more you become aware of him and His world
E. There must be a practical
response
V Delayed obedience turns into disobedience
V General response turns into general
results
F. There must be a specific
response
V General response turns into general
results
