Discover Prayer Part I
We Must Ask

(SHARP): NAS James 4:2 You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.
Point of View: We forfeit many blessings by failing to ask God for them.
Action Step: Ask God for all of your needs, wants and desires.
Benefit: You will live a serendipitous life.

Key Point 1: We must ask in order to receive from God.

Subpoint 1.1: Ask for all of your needs.  NAS Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Subpoint 1.2: Ask for all of your wants.  NAS Psalm 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Subpoint 1.3: Ask for all of your desires.  NAS Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.

Key Point 2: How to ask God properly.

Subpoint 2.1: The Greek word “ask”in James 4:2 is Strong’s number 154 aivte,w aiteo {ahee-teh'-o} which Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance Of The Bible defines as “a demand of something due” (see Strong’s Greek Dictionary Of The New Testament number 4441).

Subpoint 2.2: This is not to imply that we are trying to boss God around or be rude.  However, it is like being at the supper table with your family and asking them to pass the salt.  The salt is rightfully yours because you are part of the family, however, it will not be of benefit to your food unless you politely demand (ask) it to be passed your way.

Subpoint 2.3: We are to ask our Heavenly Father for things that we need, want, or desire, in Jesus’ name.  Ending our prayer with the traditional “In Jesus’ name” is more than a formula, password, or closing to a letter.  It is to be a realization that our right to obtain anything from our Father is based on the completed work of the cross of our Savior.  It is an acknowledgement that we are not asking based on our own name or works but rather in our Lord Jesus’.  If your spouse went to the bank to withdraw money from your account in their maiden name they would get nothing.  However, if they used their married name they could get everything.  It is the same way with our Heavenly Father for we have been given the name of Jesus.

Key Point 3: ASK - Matthew 7:7

Subpoint 3.1: Ask, and it shall be given to you;

Subpoint 3.2: Seek, and you shall find;

Subpoint 3.3: Knock, and it shall be opened to you.

Point of View: We forfeit many blessings by failing to ask God for them.
Action Step: Ask God for all of your needs, wants and desires.
Benefit: You will start receiving the benefits God has been waiting to give you.
SHARP: NAS John 15:16 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you.
